LL follows a modern and unconventional design approach while honoring minimalism and simplicity. Our watches begin with an idea and a sketch, which are then meticulously crafted in CAD software and transferred into final watch case. Along the way, this process requires technical decisions, such as dial diameter and the functional characteristics of the watch case.
At LL, the design process of our watches starts with a sketch and is then further crafted and perfected in CAD software. To ensure that each design meets our exacting standards, we use the Stereolithography (SLA) 3D Printing method to create prototypes. This method uses a laser to project a dot onto a special resin, which is then cured at the laser’s position. The prototypes are then hardened with a special UV light cure and can be tested, including for wearability with a bracelet.
Our designs go through an exacting process to ensure the highest quality product. After refining our designs with 3D printed prototypes, the final designs are exported and sent to our milling vendor. Our vendor uses 3- to 5-axis CNC-Milling Centers and CNC-Lathes to precisely cut the watch case from a solid block of the chosen material. The result is an raw watch case with unmatched precision and attention to detail.
We are passionate about craftsmanship and creating exquisite timepieces with precision and attention to detail. Our milled parts are sent from our supplier and go through several manual steps to adapt them to the desired design. Sanding, brushing and polishing are just some of the operations used to achieve the perfect surface quality, resulting in unique watches and a level of quality that we are proud to stand behind. After our milled parts are sent from our supplier, they go through several manual steps to adapt them to the desired design. Sanding, brushing and polishing are just some of the operations used to achieve the perfect surface quality. The time consuming manual finishing of the surfaces means that each watch of the same model is unique and reflects the high quality that LL stands for.
We take pride at LL in every detail of our watches, from the design to the craftsmanship. The dials for each watch are carefully crafted according to the model’s design, and then adorned with second marks, the model’s name and the LL branding. This process is known as pad printing – where the desired print is etched into a negative (cliché) and drawn off with a pad, and then pressed onto the surface of the dial. This manual process takes time, skill and attention to detail to ensure the highest level of accuracy and uniqueness. As with the surface treatment, pad printing is also performed manually, ensuring the highest level of quality, accuracy and uniqueness.
We take great pride in creating watches crafted with precision and attention to detail. Our rewarding moment comes when the several production steps – from design to milling, surface treatment, pad printing and assembly – finally lead to the desired result. The assembly involves putting together the watch case, the movement with the dial and hands, and finally, the housing of the movement assembly in the watch case. This process is worth the effort, as it reveals the final product in all its glory.
The quality control at LL is the most essential part in maintaining our standards. Each watch is optically inspected under a microscope and its watertightness is tested in a special machine to check the bending of the watch under pressure. If the tests are successful, the watch is given a final cleanup before it is approved for sale. This comprehensive process ensures that only products with the desired quality are released for our customers.
